Jacques Torres is also known as Mr. Chocolate, is a French master pastry chef and is one of the most respected pastry makers and is the dean of Dean of Pastry studies and Arts, at the French Culinary Institute. He is also the prominent member of International Culinary Center community and has been making pastry demonstrations, organizing pastry competitions and also giving training to many young people. A celebrated chef, he also has a business in Brooklyn as he owns the “Jacques Torres Chocolate” parlor. He got involved into the world of pastry from the age of 15, when he worked for small pastry shop as an intern in France.
He completed his training in 2 years and was rewarded the highest honor of graduation. After serving the French military and quitting at the age of 20, he started to work at Hotel Negresco, under the head chef Jacques Maximum. He also studied to earn a Master’s degree in Master Pastry Chef at the Culinary School. Working in the 2 star hotel, he also taught at a Culinary school in Cannes from 1983-1986. In ’86, he participated in the Patissier de France competition and won it with the award for his Best Chocolate. He was the youngest person to have participated and won that event. After that was done, he thought of moving to United States, where he worked Ritz Carlton Hotel as a corporate Pastry chef, before moving on to work at the Le Cirque, where he was an Executive Pastry Chef. He is the owner of Jacques Torres chocolate, and since 1993, has joined the International Culinary Center.
