Gerardo Mejía is a rapper/singer, a young pastor and a recording artist from Ecuador, who is better known only by his first name, Gerardo. He currently lives in Los Angeles, and is known for his dressing sense and style, more than his songs and is mostly seen shirtless in his concerts. He first came to be known as a musician, when his album track “Rico Suave” was played in the film Mo’ Ritmo (1991). It went up to number 36 in the Billboard 200 chart that year, and in 1991 had been at the 7th place, which was a massive achievement for someone with his debut album. He has recorded many songs in English as well as Spanish. He remade Parliament’s Give Up The Funk track into his own “We Want the Funk”, which also made his career as a singer, strong. Gerardo was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador on the 16th of April, 1965 and is currently 50 years of age, in 2015. He was born as the only child to middle class parents who later moved to United States, where he grew up. As a child, he played a lot of basketball and although is not very tall; but still has a good height. After high school, he took an acting program course and soon grew interest into it. With his parents forcing him to take a better job, he became much free after his father’s death and chose to act. He landed in a couple of small roles, and also served theater for two years. He finally got his first break in 1987 as Ricky in the film Can’t Buy Me Love. He also appeared in the gang war movie Colors (1998) before working on his first album. He then played in only a few movies like: Super carrier (1988), A Million to Juan (1994), Pauly Shore is Dead (2003) etc., and started working as a musician. He currently has released 6 different albums, as many hit songs and has also toured around the USA, and performed in several places. An Ecuadorian by nationality, he belongs to white ethnicity.
