Actress and activist Gillian Anderson is a famous name in the Hollywood industry. She is popular for her roles in TV shows like The X-Files and Hannibal and movies like The Mighty Celt, The House of Mirth, and The X-Files: I Want to be Believe.

She has an estimated net worth of $35 million which she has earned with the success of TV shows and movies.  Anderson was born August 9, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois, United States.

She is American, but she has English, German, and Irish ancestry. Few months after her birth she and her family moved to the United Kingdom. They lived there for about 11 years.

Her father was interested in acting and so attended London Film School when they were in London. Anderson may have gotten her interest and enthusiasm in drama looking at his father.

She moved to Michigan after 11 years of living in London. There she began acting while she was in high school.

Her interests got her to do intern at a school of theater arts.She started her career in theater with the play Absent Friends in 1990. She got an award for her first role for Absent Friends.

Then she was offered the role of Dana Scully in The X-files by the same director. This changed Anderson’s career. For her role as Scully the Special Agent in The X-Files she has won many awards including an Emmy, Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe.

Not only The X-Files, but she has also done major roles in other TV shows like Bleak House, Crisis, Future Fantastic, Hannibal, and The Fall. She has appeared as a guest in Eek! The Cat, ReBoot, Frasier, Moby Dick and Robot Chicken.

Talking about her career in film, she started off with the movie ‘The Turning’ an adaptation of the play and book Home Fires Burning. With this movie, she continued her acting in the film. With roles in movies like Princess Mononoke, The Mighty Celt, The Last King of Scotland, Sister, Johnny English Reborn, Mr. Morgan’s Last Love, and Sold she has made her name in the industry

Apart from acting in television and film, she also writes. She wrote the X-Files’ episode All Things which was showed on the air in 2000. She is also the co-author of the book A Vision of Fire. She is also an activist.

She supports and funds the UK’s group Children with Tumors.  She is also an active member of PETA and supports and raises voice for animal rights.

Moreover, she is also an active supporter of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community and also a campaigner for Action for Southern Africa and helps in raising funds for them.

Her first marriage was with Clyde Klotz in 1994. Husband Clyde Klotz was the assistant art director of The X-Files whom she met on the show’s set. They have a daughter together named Piper Maru.

Their relationship didn’t last long. She got divorced in 1997. In 2004, she married Julian Ozanne which didn’t work out well. They got separated in 2006.

Then Anderson started dating Mark Griffiths. They have children together; two sons Oscar and Felix. Despite their relationship’s popularity, they ended it up in 2012.
