He is the son of Holly Mankiewicz and Frank Mankiewicz. His father was Robert F. Kennedy’s press secretary. It is said that his father was Jewish but his mother, Mormon. Herman Mankiewicz is his grandfather, and he is the great-nephew of screenwriter and director Joseph L. Mankiewicz.
